:. Beautiful Quotes Regarding The Night Prayer .:

“Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allaah’s Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them” [al-Sajdah 32:16]

The best of prayers after the prescribed prayers is prayer in the depths of the night, and the best of fasting after the month of Ramadaan is fasting the month of Allaah, Muharram.” (reported by Muslim)

The closest that the Lord is to His slave is in the later part of the night, so if you can be one of those who remember Allaah at that time, then do so.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhi)

“The most beloved of prayer to Allaah is the prayer of Dawood, and the most beloved of fasts to Allaah is the fast of Dawood. He used to sleep for half of the night, then get up and pray for a third of the night, then sleep for a sixth of the night, and he used to fast every other day.” (Bukhari+Muslim)

“Whoever recites ten aayaat (verses)in qiyaam will not be recorded as one of the forgetful. Whoever recites a hundred aayaat in qiyaam will be recorded as one of the devout , and whoever prays a thousand aayaat in qiyaam will be recorded as one of the muqantareen (those who pile up good deeds).” (Reported by Abu Dawood)

Al-Fudayl ibn ‘Ayaad said: “I met some people who feel ashamed before Allaah to sleep for too long in the depths of the night. Such a person may be resting on his side, and when he moves, he says to himself, ‘This is not your right. Get up and take your share of the Hereafter”

Al-Hasan said: “We do not know of any deed more difficult than the struggle to stay up at night or to spend money.” It was said to him, “Why do the mutahajjadeen (those who pray Tahajjud at night) have the most beautiful faces?” He said, “Because they spend time alone with the Most Merciful, so He adorns them with some of His light”

He also said “a man commits a sin and so (because of of it) he is deprived of staying up at night”.

Abu’l-Darda’ (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “Pray two rak’ahs in the darkness of the night for the darkness of the grave.”

Ibn Al mubarak said: ” When the night is completely dark it finds them staying up at night.Fear has chased away their slepp so they stay up, while those who feel secure in this life sleep on”.

man once said to a righteous man, “I am unable to keep on staying up at night; give me a remedy.” The righteous man said, “Do not disobey Him during the day and He will keep you up, between His hands, at night.”

It has been transmitted that Suffian ath-Thawri said, “I was once deprived of staying up at night for five months because of a sin that I had committed.”

Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir said: “There is nothing left of the joys of this life except three: qiyaam al-layl, meeting one’s brothers in faith, and praying in congregation.”

So wait steadfastly…..

The sea of pleasures may drown its owner and the swimmer fears to open his eyes under the water. Allah promised you the pleasures of the Akhira, so do not be in a hurry and seek them in this worldly life as if you are cutting plants before their harvest time, while they are much better if you wait. Likewise, the pleasures of the Hereafter are so much better. Buy for yourself (through doing good deeds) while there is still a market and you have the ability to buy. Everyone will pass through times of sleep and neglect (following his lusts), but do not sink into sleep as the morning of the Akhira is close at hand…

(Ibn qayim~Al-fawaa’id))

Shyness/لحياء – Umm Abdillaah al-Waadi’iyyah

Shyness is of two types:

1. What consists of character and disposition and cannot be acquired. Shyness is the behavior Allah granted the servant. The Prophet sallallahu alayhe was salaam said ” Shyness brings about nothing but good.” It prohibits a person from committing despicable actions and displaying degrading behavior.

2. What is attainable through knowing Allah and knowing His greatness as well as His closeness to His servants. His overseeing them, and His knowledge of what deceives the eyes while being hidden in the chests.

Shyness from Allah may be caused by witnessing and reflecting over His blessings and the shortcomings associated with being thankful for them.

The praiseworthy shyness is the behavior that encourages the performing of commendable actions and abandoning the wretched.

Concerning the statement : ” If you do not feel shy then do as you wish .” One meaning is that it does not command to do whatever you wish, but it conveys a meaning of blame and prohibition. One way of interpreting it is that it conveys a threat/warning. The second way to interpret it is that it is a way of conveying information. The thing that prohibits a person from doing bad actions is shyness.

An-Nawawee said , The Scholars said that the reality of shyness is the character that encourages the abandonment of despicable actions and prevents against negligence concerning the rights of the people who possess rights over others.

Aboo Al Qaasim al Junayd said Shyness is recognizing Allahs favors, meaning His blessings and the recognizing of ones own negligence in light of them both.

When shyness is lost, every type of evil is committed.

There are five signs of wretchedness :

1. The harshness in the hearts
2. The unflinching eye
3. The lack of shyness
4. The seeking of worldy pleasures.
5. Longevity in life

An example of shyness is Asmaa bint Aboo Bakr in the hadeeth where she carried the date stones and was offered to ride behind the Prophet sallallahu alayhe was salaam but was too shy.

The Question?

“What do scholars say about a man who was tried by a fitnah who knows that if he continues with that fitnah it will ruin this life and the life to come, and he is trying to push himself away from it in all aspects, but he is unable to and every time he tries to push it away, it becomes intensified. What would be the solution, and how could he relieve himself from that trial?”

Different seeds of the personalities of human beings:

  • Animal instinct – follow their desires
  • Like a dog – specifically, the hyena: scavengers, eating the flesh of others.  Involved in nameemah, gheebah, etc.
  • Like donkeys – workaholics, work too much
  • Like beasts – gangster mentality, very aggressive towards people
  • Like mice – Timid, hiding
  • Poisonous personality – hurt others – evil eye, jealousy, hasad, etc
  • Like pigs – always involved in filthy thoughts and actions.  Even though Allah has given them the ability to do khayr, they choose to remain in filth.
  • Like peacocks – arrogant
  • Like camels – never forget or forgive
  • The worshipping soul – human personality above animals, the worshiper, has a strong connection with Allah through servitude and worship

The Effect of Sins on Human Beings:

  • Deprivation of knowledge – knowledge is light, doesn’t enter a dark heart.  Story of Imam ashShafi’ee speaking to his teacher, Wakee’, who advised him to give up sinning in order to retain the knowledge
  • Deprivation of provision – no barakah in what they do, even the barakah in their wealth goes away
  • Darkness in the heart-Cannot distinguish between right and wrong
  • Loneliness in your heart from Allah – when you feel lonely and disconnected, you won’t turn back to Allah for forgiveness and to re-establish that link –Even when among people, you feel alone
  • Takes a toll on the body and heart. Spiritually and physically exhausted. Ibaadah becomes very hard.
  • Deprived of the sweetness of ibaadah.
  • Makes your life shorter. In terms of barakah and age. In terms of age: you are stressed out all the time or some people commit suicide because of the sin. Someone committing a sin goes after one sin
  • Sin breeds more sin – always entices you to do more and worse sins

Four things that cause a person to commit a sin:

1. The eye / sight. The sight is the messenger towards the sin.

2. Thoughts. This is more difficult than the sight because it is easy to see something and then look away, but if something is on your mind, it is what you always think about.

3. Statements. The verbal action (i.e. talking) occurs. Then you start talking to other people about it and it becomes public.

4. Steps. Taking the steps towards committing the sin.

Recap

Who did Imam ash Shafi’ee blamed for his sins and mistakes on his death bed?

Where does destruction of the heart comes from?

To enliven your heart, ………………………………

Give two extreme examples of people of taqleed.

What is the importance of Tawheed al-Ittiba’?

Hadith of dhihaar……

Al Imran Verse 31………………………………

How do you migrate to Allah?

Two types of needs are……………………………

which rule should you use to judge by?

Classification of the heart

in Rescuing the One who is Seeking Help from the Snares of the Shaytan. The hearts are three:

1.Qalbun Saleem – A sound heart – no one will be saved on the Day of Judgment without bringing this heart

This is the heart that is saved from all the desires (shahawaat) that not in accordance to the command of Allah!Free of doubts (shubuhaat)

Qalbun Mayyit – A dead heart

  • Does not recognize Allah
  • Does not worship Allah or love Him

Qalbun Mareed – a sick heart

This heart has life, but also disease,It needs medication to work well.It will stand based on which is stronger: medication or disease. Most people fall into this category!

Diseases of the Heart

They are one of two categories:

Ignorance and Doubts. Those who are ignorant do not feel it or know that they are ignorant until they are too late sometimes. This is a terminal disease. You do not feel it until it is too late.

The disease that is too painful and you can feel the pain frequently. Examples: grief, sorrow, sadness, anger, animosity, envy. When someone envies another, how do you feel about yourself? You yourself start to feel bad.

Treatment

  •  Qur’an
  • Healing for the hearts
  • Heart needs three things
  • Energy boosters – strong belief and good acts
  • Spiritual diet
  • Taking all the harmful things out – detoxification
  • To free the heart from obedience to the nafs.

Two ways of treament

Muhaasabah – putting your soul to account

Makhaalafatuhaa – opposing your nafs

Free from control of Shaytan,Shaytan is the enemy of man

How to protect yourself from Shaytan?

  • Isti’adha
  • Adhkar

How to keep the qalb as-sireen?

  • Ikhlas – sincerity to Allah in doing everything for His sake
  • Be happy with yout Lord and His decree
  • Reciting the Qur’an
  • Having good faith in the believers (husn adh-dhann)
  • Don’t have bad suspicion against people
  • Good advice
  • Giving advice
  • Seeking advice from others that are better than you
  • Spreading peace
  • By saying asSalaamu Alaikum first

Sahabi would go to market for no other purpose than to say salaam…Shaykh al’Uthaymeen used to do the same thing!

  • Giving gifts, being nice and kind to others
  • Du’a, the weapon of the believer
  • Don’t carry grudges or animosity against anyone

Hadith of Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn alAas observing a Sahibi who got good news of Jannah from Prophet

What hurts the heart?

  • Intermingling with the people too much, for no reason
  • To ride the oceans of hope
  • Long hopes in this dunya, but death will cut it off

People should have strong resolve and determination, do it now, don’t procrastinante

  • Attaching yourself to someone besides Allah. This is the worst things that leads to sickness of the heart!
  • Food-Two kinds that hurt the heart:

1.Something because physically, it is harmful (al-muharramaat: pork, blood, wine, etc; also riba, usury, etc.)

2.Amount of halal food you eat

  • Too much – lazinesss of body, heart is also affected
  • Sleeping too much
  • Body is heavy and lazy
  • Wastes your time

He says: “The steps of ascension to Allah are by the heart and strong resolve, not by your body.”

RECAP!

•Say (O Muhammad): “……………………………….…” (al-Imran:…….) •Following the sunnah is part of …………………

 •Division of People of Taqleed!…………………………..

•Give two extreme examples of people of taqleed. •What is the importance of Tawheed al-Ittiba’?

•What s the difference between Ittiba’and Taqleed? • Za’d ul Ma’ad explored………………………………

•How do you migrate to Allah?

•How do you migrate to Messenger of Allah? •which rule should you use to judge by?

Imam ash Shafi’ee on his deathbed

When my heart hardens, and all my ways are getting tight but the way of death, I make my hope in your Mercy, and my wish to ascend into your Mercy.  My sin looks so huge for me that I lost hope in your Mercy, but when I compared that to your Greatness and Mercy, it looked so much greater than it.  You have always been there, Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Heart Doctor

•Example of the bird

•He said, “No servant has been punished by any punishment than making his heart.”

•He says, “Why was fire created?

•What should one do if he desires a pure heart?

Destruction of the Heart

“These hearts that are attached to desires are blocked from Allah as much as they are attached to their desires”

“The destruction of the heart comes from over-security and heedlessness” •If you feel you are secure, doing good, are fine – path to heedlessness

Never trust your heart’s security, always fight to become better

“Building your heart is through remembrance of Allah”

“The hearts get sick just like the body, and its cure is through repentance and spiritual diet.”

Spiritual diet – like physical diet involves staying away from harmful food, spiritual diet involves staying away from everything that has a negative affect on the heart and soul.

To enliven your heart, need to kill your desires

Training and practice – fasting, ‘ibadaat, etc.

Categories of the Heart

1.Heart completely empty of Iman and goodness – this is the dark heart. Shaytan feels happy, doesn’t need to bother this heart at all.

2.Heart that has the light of Iman, but the darkness of the sins is still floating above it, and the tornados of these desires. Shaytan jumps on it when it leans towards Allah, and leaves it when it strays.

3.Heart that is stuffed with Iman. It has no cloudy weather of sins. If they Shaytan dares to approach this heart, he will be burned.

The Dark Side of Human Nature

Three kinds of darkness:

*Darkness of soul

*Darkness of character

*Darkness of desires

He quotes a Christian source: You have to be “born again” just like ‘Isa said to his disciples: you will not enter the kingdom of heaven, until you are born again

The hearts in this terminology are 3 types

A heart that is still in the belly of the shahawat and desires, misguidance, misleading,

This heart was already born again and is already out in the spacious room of tawheed and knowledge. The placenta of bad habits and tradition have been rid of.

The heart in labour between the two hearts waiting to be delivered. Waiting to be rid of the habits. This heart is waiting for the delivery day and night. Sometimes you see the spacious room of tawheed outside and have enjoyed it partially. Sometimes after seeing the spacious room of tawheed, they see the desert of shahawat that scares them.

Most people fall into the third category, meaning they are good and then start feeling happy about it and then fallshort in the ibaadah

RECAP!

Known-Ibn alQayyim alJawziyyah. Real name- ‘Abdillah ibn Abu Bakr ibn Ayyub al-Dimishqee

Name 2 of his teacher……………………………………

What was he famous for?…………………………..

He had the upper hand in…………………………….?

Why was he imprisoned?…………………………

“Say Ya Muhammad, if you claim that you love Allah, then say to them ‘follow me.’” Surah???

What s the difference between Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn alQayyim’s writing?

Hadith of dhihaar……

Who are the true immigrants?

Two types of needs are……………………………..

Are you a true believer if you don’t understand the names and attribute of Allah?

which rule should you use to judge by?

The path of 2 immigrations

Tawheed of Allah (Tawheed fil ittiba’ an-nabi)

“Say (O Muhammad): ‘If you claim you love Allah, then follow me…’” (al-Imran)

Enslavement with love – servitude is a result of love of Allah. How do we serve Allah?

Those who claim that they don’t have to follow the Sunnah, and can follow their logic/reason, etc… he attacks this ideology and refutes it

You cannot achieve his love without servitude in the best manner, and the best manner was shown to us in the life of the Prophet

Following the Sunnah is part of Tawheed!!

Ittiba’ of the Prophet

Doing what Allah (subhanahu wata’ala) loves. For example: a man and his wife.

Any work that doesn’t have the example of the Prophet is your own desires. You are following the desires of your nafs.

It is mandatory for all the mujahirs to Allah to put every second and every breath in achieving that by having the knowledge of the Prophet’s sunnah

Happiness in this life and the hereafter is all by following the Prophet

Those who know more about the Prophet’s life, they will be more following of the way of the Prophet, and thus they will be closer to the Tawheed of Allah

The philosophers separated the sciences of ‘aqeedah and fiqh, different rules and principles. For Ibn alQayyim, the sciences were intertwined and inseparable, because the rules of actions were strongly linked with rules of ‘aqeedah.

Brings the details of the Prophet’s description and even food

Story of Anas: Prophet chasing the pieces of squash/pumpkin and loving to eat them

Q:What is the benefit of all this?

If you learn these details, you will learn to remember the Prophet in every moment of your life.

Warning against Taqleed

Ittiba’ vs taqleed

Ittiba’ is ‘tareeq al-wasat’: the middle way

One extreme: following someone besides the Prophet uncritically

Other extreme: complete leaving of practice and following anyone

Showed the value of evidence from Qur’an and Sunnah, over blind following

offense against the Prophet &Quran

Division of people of taqleed

Completely neglect the statements of the Prophet (PBUH) and his example.

Blindly follow someone who is not qualified to be followed.

Uncritical following after the evidence is clear, and they agree with you, but they want to stick with their madhab or scholar.

As for those people who don’t have knowledge, cannot understand evidence, cannot find a qualified people to teach them, then they should follow some scholarship blindly. But these are the conditions of this taqleed.

If someone doesn’t fall into the above category, then cannot blindly follow. Otherwise, it becomes shirk fil tawheed al-ittiba’ an-nabi

Adab of following of Prophet (PBUH)

“O Messenger of Allah, Allah will be sufficient for you and for those after you.”

It means………………………..

When the Prophet (PBUH) said something, then another command cannot be brought to negate it. Raising the voice when the hadith of the Prophet (PBUH) is read is considered an offense. Allah says: “Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet (PBUH).”

What should we do?

Benefit from the ulema but submit to the daleel.

1) link following the Prophet (PBUH) and love for Allah.

2) Showing importance of ittiba’

3)detailing the lifestyle of the Prophet (PBUH)

4) warning people against this

::Tarbiyya 2::

His methodology of presenting Tawheed as Tarbiyya

Tareeq alHijratayn wa Ba’d Sa’aadatayn (The path of the two hijrahs and afterwards two happinesses)

Hadith: “The true immigrant is the one who immigrates from sin to righteousness (to Allah and His Messenger)”

Hijratayn:

  • Migration to Allah through
  • Love – ‘uboodiyyah
  • Tawakkul – reliance
  • Inabah – repentance
  • Tasleem – submission
  • Taqweed – giving up of affairs
  • Raja – Hope
  • Khawf – Fear
  • Iqbaal ‘alayh – turning to Allah
  • Iftiqaab – Sincerity to show your need to Allah

Migration to the Messenger of Allah salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam

  • From your lifestyle to his
  • His movements
  • His actions
  • The subtle matters of his life, shown and hidden
  • Living according to the Shar’iah, no example better than him
  • Everything that you do in following the Prophet will be provisions for the hereafter (Za’d ulMa’ad)

Tawheed The oneness of Allah ‘azza wa jal

Said that the true meaning of tawheed was to realize your excessive and extreme need to Allah

You need him in everything, all your affairs

If you just submit to that fact, then you know you need no one except Him

“O Mankind! You are in poverty/need to Allah, and Allah is the One Who is rich” – this is the first chapter his book

  • Faqr – poverty/need
  • Ikhtiyaari – by choice
  • Idtiraari – by force

Even if someone is rich in material life, in reality you are poor. If you accept that you are in need of Allah, you get to that high level of Tawheed

Example of Prophet

He showed the good example, uswatun hasanah.

The one who is perfect among mankind is the one who is perfect in his worship to Allah –

The Prophet said in his du’a: “My Lord, amend all my affairs, and do not leave these affairs in my hand, even the blink of an eye.”

Used to teach his companions alIstikhaarah all the time, the same way he would teach them Qur’an. Taught reliance and need to Allah.Prophet’s du’a: “O changer of hearts, keep my heart fixed on your path” – even though his sins were forgiven, he showed that need and reliance on Allah, and complete submission to him.

Asmaa’ wasSifaat

This became an issue of debate

Ibn alQayyim gave the Asmaa’ wasSifaat a new dimension: attachment and point of view of heart

When you use the Names of Allah, all of them should serve the purpose of bringing you closer to Allah

Example: If you believe Allah is alAwwal and alAakhir, you will rely on Him Alone, the who transcends even time

Example: If you believe Allah is All-Hearing, if it doesn’t affect your actions and words to make them pure and good all the time, then understanding his Name doesn’t matter to you

Example of ‘Aisha: in Surah alMujaadalah, Allah reveals the words of adDhihaar. When ‘Aisha saw this, she said Praise be to Allah, the Hearer of all things. I’m in one of the corners of this house, and I hear some of this woman’s speech and don’t hear all of it. But Allah Hears All (“qad samee’ Allah…”)

atTahaakum ilAllah(Judgment by the Will of Allah)

Whether in public or alone, know they will be judged by Allah for everything

atTahaakum li ghayri Allah = atTahaakum bitTaaghoot

Against bid’ah: If Allah had not ordained an action for you, and you perform it as ‘ibadah, then this must be from a false diety you are obeying. This is worse than a sin, because at least in a sin, you will repent for it.Why don’t people repent for a bid’ah? Because everyone who brings a bid’ah believes that innovation is something good. People know that a sin is bad, but don’t realize!!There are types of bid’ah: sinful bid’ah, and bid’ah that leads to kufr!

Ittiba’ of the Prophet

To follow the example of the Prophet sincerely, because following his example links back to Tawheed of Allah (Tawheed fil ittiba’ an-nabi)

“Say (O Muhammad): ‘If you claim you love Allah, then follow me…’” (aali’Imran)

Enslavement with love – servitude is a result of love of Allah. How do we serve? By following the Prophet salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Those who claim that they don’t have to follow the Sunnah, and can follow their logic/reason, etc… he attacks this ideology and refutes it!You cannot achieve his love without servitude in the best manner, and the best manner was shown to us in the life of the Prophet,Following the Sunnah is part of Tawheed!

Any work that doesn’t have the example of the Prophet is your own desires. You are following the desires of your nafs.

Happiness in this life and the hereafter is all by following the Prophet

It is mandatory for all the mujahirs to Allah to put every second and every breath in achieving that by having the knowledge of the Prophet’s sunnah

Story of Anas: Prophet chasing the pieces of squash/pumpkin and loving to eat them. Anas, after this, always loved pumpkin, because of his love for the Prophet

Details of his garments – wore a coat from ashShaam. He showed he was a human being like anyone else, wearing fashionable garments.

If you learn these details, you will learn to remember the Prophet in every moment of your life 😀

Warning against Taqleed

Ittiba’ vs taqleed

Ittiba’ is tareeq al-wasat: the middle way

One extreme: following someone besides the Prophet uncritically

Other extreme: complete leaving of practice and following anyone

Showed the value of evidence from Qur’an and Sunnah, over blind following!

Division of people of taqleed:

*Some people completely negate Sunnah and take the examples of their fathers/forefathers as sufficient

*Some follow people who have little to no knowledge at all, who know something and suddenly becomes the grand mufti among the people

*Some people recognize that the Sunnah says this and this, and they acknowledge they should follow it, but say that sticking to the madhab is better.

Warning against Taqleed

As for those people who don’t have knowledge, cannot understand evidence, cannot find a qualified people to teach them, then they should follow some scholarship blindly. But these are the conditions of this taqleed.

If someone doesn’t fall into the above category, then cannot blindly follow. Otherwise, it becomes shirk fil tawheed al-ittiba’ an-nabi

::Tarbiyya::

This course was originally taught by shaykh yasir Birjas in Ilm summit 2009…….and is based on the work of ibn qayim- I shall post small notes from the class. Inshallah hope people benefit from it!

Tarbiyya of Ibn alQayyim alJawziyyah

What we will be studying:

  • The nature of human beings from a psychological and spiritual perspective
  • The concept of Tawheed
  • The subject of al-‘itiba
  • Focusing on the hearts.

Imam ashShawkani wrote about him: “He was a mujtahid mutlaq.  He acquired all the tools to become an independent mujtahid.  He was an expert in the Hanbali school and followed it.”

  • His life
  • What the scholars said about him
  • His great teacher & books
  • His methodology on tarbiyya

we will start of with his life

Ibn alQayyim alJawziyyah born in 691 AH (1292 CE) • Real name was Abu ‘Abdillah ibn Abu Bakr ibn Ayyub al-Dimishqee

•Qayyim is a superintendant and Al Jawziyyah was a Hanbali school in Syria. •His father was one of leader of Hanbali fiqh

What the scholars said about him?

•Ibn Rajab wrote about him: “he had the upper hand in human psychology and behavior and mysticism and tasawwuf (Sufism – but they had a different interpretation of this).

•Ibn Rajab said that he loved knowledge, reading, writing, and collecting books. They had never seen anyone with a library as large as his.” –He grew up in the culture of his time, which was mostly about Sufism, and so he learned so much about it

Ibn Rajab said that he was very famous for his tahajjud and qiyam al-layl. When he prays, he makes his salah very long, even his sujood and ruku’. Some of his friends and companions complained and said that was too much, he wouldn’t listen to them. He had that love for Allah and always remembered Allah ‘azza wa jal.

His level of ‘uboodiyyah (subservience and worship) to Allah was exceptional. Even when he was in prison, his time was spent in reading the Book of Allah, thinking about it, meditating, contemplating.

Shaykh Yaser said that out of the contemporary scholars, he’s seen Shaykh bin Baz also engrossed in dhikr like this. Even during answering questions of people coming to him.

His great teacher & books

Shaykh ulIslam Ibn Taymiyyah was his Companionship for 16 years until Ibn Taymiyyah died 728 AH (1329 CE)

Ibn Al Qayyim was one of the greatest supporters of Ibn Taymiyyah and was even with him in jail. When Ibn Taymiyyah died, they released Ibn Al Qayyim. They were in jail because of fiqh issues. Of the most popular fatwas that caused Ibn Al Qayyim to be in prison: you are not allowed to undertake a journey to go to Al Khalil visit the grave of Ibrahim (alayhi salaam) in Palestine.

His books – vastly different from style of his teacher!

Ibn Taymiyyah was an intellectual tank, writing to appeal to the mind.Ibn alQayyim was a spiritual tank, appealing to the hearts of the people.

His methodology in Tarbiya

All his writing revolve around axes:

The human being – who are you as a human being, from a spiritual and psychological perspective.

Famous books:

  • Madaarij usSaalikeen
  • Za’d alMa’ad fi hadyi khayril ‘ibaad
  • Rawdatul Muhibbeen
  • Ighadtul ahfan
  • The Prepration of the Thankful and the Ammunition of the Patient Ones

Reality of Iman~5

Levels of Iman

1st Level: this is the minimal level of ῑmān acceptable to Allah: Evidence for this: Surah Yusuf v. 106  and  Surah Al Hujurat

2nd Level: Al ῑmān al mutlaq. The minimal level required by Allah. This is also called in Arabic: al ῑmān al waajib.

3rd Level: Higher Level: Al ῑmān al kamil = perfection of ῑmān.

Any time the Quran or Sunnah negates ῑmān from a Muslim, it is negating al ῑmān al mutlaq and not mutlaq al ῑmān.

Sahih Bukhari: The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) swore three times and said, “Woe to the one whose neighbor does not feel safe.” This does not make the person a kafir, but the person does not have al ῑmān al mutlaq

Higher Level: Al ῑmān al kamil = perfection of ῑmān.

There is no limit to the perfection of ῑmān, and the Prophet(sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) is the perfection of humanity but not of the limit.
